What to Expect on Sunday Morning

Here's some basic information on what a new visitor can expect when attending our church on Sunday morning.

Arriving on CampusJourney Church of Folsom, CA - The Courtyard

We have a wonderful set of volunteers wearing light blue hospitality badges that will greet you warmly at the entrance to our courtyard, and help you find your way around campus. They can help you find the sanctuary and children's activity rooms.  For a map of the campus (including where to park), driving directions, and even a bird's eye view of the entire area, click the link to the right.

Worship Styles and TimesInside Our Sanctuary - Journey Church of Folsom, CA

We believe that while the message and teachings should be the same, there is room for people to worship how they feel most comfortable. As a result both gatherings offer the same message from our pastors, but the music and structure and styles are different.  Holy Communion (with bread and wine/grape juice) is observed on the first Sunday of every month in both gatherings. (Everyone is welcome to participate in Communion).

9:00am Traditional Worship Gathering

We are the only Presbyterian church in Folsom that still offers a traditional style gathering. The gathering follows a more formal traditional service structure. We have songs, a message from one of our pastors, readings and responses, and of course prayer. We have a choir with piano that leads us in the singing of traditional hymns. The music is very uplifting and words can easily be found  in the hymnals provided. This service is held in our Sanctuary. The service usually lasts around 45 minutes and is then followed by free refreshments in either the outdoor courtyard (most of the time) or fellowship hall (during inclement weather).

10:30am Contemporary Worship GatheringOur Praise Band - Journey Church of Folsom, CA

This service is a little less formal. We have songs, a message from one of our pastors, readings and responses, and of course prayer. We are led by our praise band with spirited uplifting songs. The lyrics to all the songs are displayed on a screen up front with large easy to read words in a beautiful presentation. The band consists of praise singers, drums, guitars, keyboard and piano. The music is amazing! This service is held in our Sanctuary. The service usually lasts around 45 minutes and is then followed by free refreshments in either the outdoor courtyard (most of the time) or fellowship hall (during inclement weather).

Special Worship Gatherings

We also offer special gatherings for Advent season, Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday.

How Should I Dress?

While the traditional service tends to be a little more formal than the contemporary, most folks dress casual. Anything from kakis or dresses, to jeans and even shorts and t-shirts in the summer time. No one is judging how you are dressed, it what's inside that counts.

What About Bringing Children?

Children (Up to and Including 5th Grade)

We have a fun and educational set of activities during both worship gatherings for children (up to and including 5th grade). Of course, your children are always welcome to sit with you and worship, but it's really recommended to give our children's activities a try. It will be the best hour of your child's week! There is detail information available about  activities we have for your children and where to take them in link to the right. Of course we will have volunteers ready to help you figure out where to go as you arrive on campus as well.

Middle School Age (6th grade - 8th grade)

At 9:00 AM we have a fun and energetic time with group activities, music  and a lesson that touches on issues that middle school students are dealing with and ties that back to the bibles teachings. Your student will gain strong friendships and learn to open up and trust others and understand that they are not the only ones struggling through this age. At 10:30am students attend worship with their families and friends.

High School Students (9th grade - 12th grade)

High school students attend worship services with their family and friends on Sunday mornings. We also have a special worship gathering specifically designed for high school students twice a month on Sunday evenings. More details can be found on the Student link to the right.
